Nursing educators play an important role in informing students about environmental changes. Nurses' environmental awareness can increase health promotion interventions in the healthcare industry by becoming leaders to promote sustainable practices. Nursing education can educate students about the environment and promote sustainable practices inside and outside the nursing field (Luque-Alcaraz et al., 2024). This is the early step in creating nurses to be advocators and future leaders to assist with identifying barriers. People can be hesitant to implement sustainable practices because of the costs that can accumulate. The focus of improvement should be on improving health wellness and not costs. However, through some sustainable practices, costs can be reduced. For example, "Paperless" practices can help decrease landfilled waste and eliminate the hospital's costs on certain supplies. The money saved can be allocated to other departments.
