Question

The New Mexican landscape is delicate as it is beautiful. The regions of the state include mountains, high desert, plains, and river valleys. These regions are subject to drought conditions due to little rain and an arid climate. Global warming could mean that New Mexico's rivers dry up since there is little rain fall as it is. Paskus (2020) explains "living within a 'hotspot' of warming, New Mexicans are already watching how fossil-fuel extraction, 'hot drought', and record-breaking annual temperature records play out in terms of forest fires, water challenges, and public-health impacts" (p. xii). The effects of climate change are seen in New Mexico in the form of forest fires, drought, and poorer health of New Mexicans. Right now, most of Santa Fe County is in a state of extreme drought (New Mexico | U.S. Drought Monitor, 2021).
