Question

Mike, from information technology (IT), is working with the nursing teams to make sure that standardized nursing terminology exists for the new electronic health record (EHR) system that will also meet the meaningful use (MU) criteria. He is discovering that different nursing departments use different terminologies. For example, the operating room (OR) is using Perioperative Nursing Data Set (PNDS) terminology, other departments use NANDA terminology, other departments are still using the paper system, and while an outside clinic uses their own "local" terminology.
