Question

S.T., a 40-year-old G4 P3013, presents after noticing "something growing in her vagina." She states that symptoms have been getting more prominent over the last couple of weeks, with mostly the right side being affected. She denies pain, urinary or bowel symptoms, fever, chills, or abnormal cervical cytologic studies (also commonly referred to as Papanicolau [Pap] smear, although these are usually now fluid-based methods of slide preparation). She has no significant medical problems and uses no medication other than a multivitamin and an occasional echinacea supplement. She is in a monogamous relationship of 15-year duration. Her three children were delivered by cesarean section (middle child)and vaginally (first and third children). Family history is notable for cervical cancer in her mother. On exam, she is a healthy appearing Caucasian woman with normal vitals. Skin is warm and dry with normal turgor. The mass is best visualized by parting the labia. It is minimally compressible, soft, and regular in texture. No tenderness is elicited.
