The actions Ford should have taken to satisfy the three ethical guidelines is to first put themselves in the position of the car buyer. I truly believe that if they considered that instead of how less expensive the damages would be, then they may have not put themselves in that predicament. Having knowledge about a defect, that you have an opportunity to correct, but chose not to, is wrong in every sense of the word. The second interpretation of the golden rule states "Be considerate of othersF feelings as you want them to be considerate of yours." (Kubasek, 2016, p21) If Ford was considerate of their customer's feelings, then they would have done the repairs on the already sold cars and changed the design on the cars in the process of being built, to ensure the safety of future Ford Pinto buyers. Ford could have easily chosen to correct the defect, used that show of good faith to boost or increase sales. They could have turned a negative into a positive. I feel the sixth way the golden rule can be interpreted says it all. "Do to others as God wants you to do to them." (Kubasek, 2016, p21) I know a lot of people don't believe in God, but for the millions that do, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want you to burn to death because of a defective gas tank.
