EGLO7026 Master Project
Topic - [Role of training and development in the performance of SMEs in Bangladesh: A critical analysis of BPO (Business process outsourcing) industry from 2015 to 2020.]
Project: Thesis vs. Project
Research proposal
• You will focus on the business area of your interest
• You will develop specialist research in that area The research proposal will include your aims and objectives, market and analysis, proposed value of your research and your planned use of research methodologies
• It will be a working plan with clear project management frameworks evidencing how you will develop final thesis or project
Final thesis
• This outcome is delivered using the framework from your proposal and will demonstrate evidence of advanced conceptual, theoretical and technical capability over an extended period of self-directed study
• Consideration should be given to the relationship between the theoretical contemporary discourses in your subject area and their application to form the analytical, design or practical manifestation of your thesis or project
• Your final thesis or project should be regarded as an exercise in the analysis, interpretation and presentation of information, observations and creative ideas related directly to your course
• As such, the format of the final submission is flexible so as to allow you to present your individual project in a context appropriate to your topic and findings
Research project
1. Research question
2. Plan
3. Literature review
4. Methodology
5. Expected main results and original contribution with respect to the existing literature (Thesis) or practice (Project)
6. Conclusions, recommendations & further research (Thesis) or implementation plan (Project)
Research question
The very first step!
• What is the issue (Thesis) or real problem (Project) you want to address and why is it important to address?
• The "what" may refer to a hypothesis you want to test (Thesis) or real problem to solve (Project). It is important to define your question in the clearest way as possible, in order to be able to treat it in the (realistically) deepest way
• The "why" usually refers to your personal/professional motivations as well as a more general importance for the professional and/or research fields
Literature review
The literature review represents a fundamental step for any research project and its planning. It helps you to sharpen your research question.
• Throughout your Master Project you will dig in already published research contributions in order for you to more clearly, easily and time-saving find out possible ways you can develop your original research question and apply and/or develop your most suitable methodology realistically with your reach. This is the literature review!
• Sources include books, scholarly articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, industry and policy reports by organisations, think tanks and consultancy firms. As we will see under Methodology further, contributions can be of different types (more or less theoretical, more or less applied/empirical, etc.).
• Start building your literature review with a few references you consider are more fundamental than others and go through them. You will be soon projected into a multiple-tree back-and-forth process.
• Don't forget to stay focused on your research question (which might be possibly modified by this process).
• Keeping a small log book can help you to keep track of this process in a more organised way.
