Question: Although evidence-based treatments exist for the rising number of adolescents who experience adolescent depression and anxiety, significant challenges persist in the implementation and sustainability of such treatments in rural populations. School-based mental health services have promise for increasing treatment access for adolescents who would not otherwise receive these services. The current review showed preliminary evidence for school-adapted, group CBT, and IPT-A skills programs for adolescent depression. Due to the limited studies for adolescent depression (and none for anxiety), there is a critical need for research on interventions addressing depression and anxiety for high school students in a rural context.
