Objective -
Students will acquire and demonstrate an in-depth knowledge within an area of interest in the history of popular music, from minstrelsy to the end of WWII, through the analysis and synthesis of information from multiple and diverse sources.

Topic Proposal Process
Submission of Topic: Students will submit a one (1) page Proposal containing three (3) major topics (in order of preference) that the student could complete a research paper on. Each topic must contain the following information:
The purpose of this submission process is (1) to allow the student to identify the availability of credible research sources and (2) to ensure that the intended topic can be successfully completed within the scope of the assignment.
Approval of Topic: The instructor will review each proposed topic and choose ONE of the three submitted for the student to complete. Once the instructor has made his selection, the student MUST complete their research paper on that APPROVED topic. Research papers submitted on NON-APPROVED topics will not be graded and receive the automatic point value of "zero."
