Refined grains versus unrefined grains:

Refined grains contain less nutrients because they have gone through a process called "milling or processed", where the bran and germ are removed to make it into a finer consistency and for easier packaging. It also makes it easier for cooking. Some nutrients are replaced after being processed but they aren't as potent as they are naturally. And actually due to digesting faster may cause a spike in blood sugar.

Before being "milled or processed" unrefined grains are full of nutrients including being a good source of fiber. Some of the nutrients refined grains contain are Vitamin B1 which supports brain health, mood and energy, Iron which supports the immune system and increases red blood cells, Magnesium which provides muscle health, heart health and even nerve health. Those are just a few but unrefined grains are rich in numerous vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that help maintain a healthy immune system.
