Question

Summary "Urinary calculi can be classified according to the primary minerals (salts) that make up the stones. The most common stone types include calcium oxalate or phosphate (70% to 85%), struvite (magnesium, ammonium, and phosphate) (1% to 5%), and uric acid (5% to 10%). Cystine stones are rare, less than 1%.6 Less common stone elements include cystine, 2,8-dihydroxyadeninuria (a rare genetic disorder that increases risk of xanthine stones), triamterene (a diuretic), and indinavir (a protease inhibitor used in management of human immunodeficiency virus [HIV] infection). Urinary calculi also can be classified according to location and size. Staghorn calculi are large and fill the minor and major calyces. Nonstaghorn calculi are of variable size and are located in the calyces, in the renal pelvis, or at various sites along the ureter.
