• Locate six articles on the same topic of interest IN BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT-two quantitative research articles, two qualitative research articles, and two mixed methods research articles-published in peer-reviewed journals.
• Prepare an annotated bibliography that includes the following:
1. A one-paragraph introduction that provides context for why you selected the research articles you did.
2. A reference list entry in APA Style for each of the six articles that follows proper formatting.
3. Follow each reference list entry with a three-paragraph annotation that includes:
a) A summary
b) An analysis
c) An application as illustrated in this example
4. A one-paragraph conclusion that presents a synthesis of the six articles.
• Format your annotated bibliography in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced. A separate References list page is not needed for this assignment.
Accuracy/ Appropriateness of Six Articles
Student has selected six research articles ON THE SAME TOPIC ON BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT:two quantitative, two qualitative, and two mixed methods articles. All six articles are current (i.e., published within the last 5 years), from peer-reviewed journals and all six contain gathered and analyzed empirical evidence (e.g. they are not opinion pieces or theoretical works).
Question 1: Introduction to the Annotated Bibliography
Student provides a clear and concise one-paragraph introduction that explains the context for why all six research articles were selected.
Question 2: A reference list
The reference list entry is in APA Style for each of the six articles that follows proper formatting.
Question 3a: Summary of Articles
Paper provides an excellent overview of all-important information from the sources, including the topic of the sources, the methods each source employed, the theoretical or conceptual basis of each study, and the conclusions.
Question 3b: Analysis and Critique of Articles
Paper should provide a thorough and dispassionate critique or analysis of the sources, addressing both the good and bad qualities. The critique addresses how aligned the research questions are to the existing body of knowledge, the appropriateness of the theoretical or conceptual framework within each study, the sufficiency of the methods and design of each study, and the generalizability/transferability of each study's results in other contexts. The paper also provides a critical analysis of the social change implications of each study's findings.
Question 3c: Application of Articles
Paper should provide a clear justification for how each source is applicable to one's research question/research interests. The paper should address the extent to which each source's topic is similar to one's research interests, how each source's method is applicable to one's research, and how each source helps to guide one's own research. Overall, the application of this source to one's research is very clear.
Question 4: Conclusion and synthesis of the Annotated Bibliography
Student provides a clear one-paragraph conclusion that synthesizes all six chosen articles.Synthesizing requires critical reading and thinking in order to compare different material, highlighting similarities, differences, and connections. When writers synthesize successfully, they present new ideas based on interpretations of other evidence or arguments. You can also think of synthesis as an extension of-or a more complicated form of-analysis. One main difference is that synthesis involves multiple sources, while analysis often focuses on one source.
Critique/Analysis
After each summary, your annotations should include a critique or analysis of each source. In this section, you will want to focus on the strengths of the article or the study (the things that would make your reader want to read this source), but do not be afraid to address any deficiencies or areas that need improvement. The idea of a critique is that you act as a critic-addressing both the good and the bad.
In your critique/analysis, you will want to answer some or all of the following questions (taken from the KAM Guidebook):
• Was the research question well framed and significant?
• How well did the authors relate the research question to the existing body of knowledge?
• Did the article make an original contribution to the existing body of knowledge?
• Was the theoretical framework for the study adequate and appropriate?
• Has the researcher communicated clearly and fully?
• Was the research method appropriate?
• Is there a better way to find answers to the research question?
• Was the sample size sufficient?
• Were there adequate controls for researcher bias?
• Is the research replicable?
• What were the limitations in this study?
• How generalizable are the findings?
• Are the conclusions justified by the results?
• Did the writer take into account differing social and cultural contexts?
Application
Finally, the last part of each annotation should justify the source's use and address how the source might fit into your own research. Consider a few questions:
• How is this source different than others in the same field or on the same topic?
• How does this source inform your future research?
• Does this article fill a gap in the literature?
• How would you be able to apply this method to your area of focus or project?
• Is the article universal?
