Question: When Barry Meyer asked Robyn Mitnick to marry him, he gave her an engagement ring that cost $19,500. Before the marriage, he asked her to sign a prenuptial agreement. She refused, and the engagement was broken. He asked her to return the ring, saying it was a gift conditioned on marriage. She refused, arguing that it was an unconditional gift. The trial court agreed with Meyer, finding the engagement ring to be a conditional gift Mitnick appealed. How do you think the court of appeals ruled, and why?
