Planning physical activities is important for the physical development of school-age children. After reading these examples, plan two physical activities of your own. Ensure that your physical activities are developmentally appropriate and would be fun for children.

Catching Stars: Divide the players into two groups-Stars and Catchers. Set up two boundaries about 20 feet apart. Catchers stand in the middle and the Stars on one boundary. Catchers say, "Star light, star bright, how many stars are out tonight?" The Stars respond, "More than you can catch." The Stars run to the opposing boundary. The Catchers tag the Stars. The last Star to be tagged is the winner.

Sticky Popcorn: Ask children to begin "popping like popcorn" (hopping or jumping up and down) in an open space. Tell children that when two "pieces" (children) meet, they stick together. Once stuck together, the children should continue to "pop" around together, sticking to more and more pieces, until all the children form a popcorn ball.
