Designers needed to maintain their attention, in order to keep communicating with the audience, since communication was a big problem. In turn they created this pictorial imagery, that can communicate more effectively with audiences. Pictorial modernism was influenced by modern art movements: De Stijl, Bauhaus, cubism, suprematism, constructivism, and dada, as well as the art-deco style. With these influences, artists were able to use these avant-garde strategies in order to effectively advertise a particular product.

Cassandre in turn used cubist and art deco as well but added scale, texture, shaped and form to united the whole poster as a whole and in turn effectively promote the ocean liner.
