A pendulum is something that moves regularly back and forth from one side to another in a straight line. It is commonly used in clocks. It was used in Galileo’s experiments of gravity. A pendulum with a point mass is hang on a string that moves about an equilibrium point using constant length of thread. The period is the time taken to travel from one point and returned back again to itself. The period of the pendulum is changes when the length of the thread changes. This can be expressed in the equation: T = 2??(L/g) Where T is the period of pendulum, L is the length of the thread and g is the constant acceleration of gravity In the present experiment, only a simple comparison between the periods of two masses is required. The method used is to measure the time of two masses to travel from one side to another. This experiment is done in standard room conditions which is free of air. Care is taken to keep length of thread constant.
