Case

A 25-year-old women has had difficulty understanding what people are saying over the phone when she hold the receiver to her left ear. She has no problems hearing from her right ear and has no other neurological or medical symptoms. When a vibrating tuning fork is placed in the center of her forehead, she hears the sound better in her right ear than her left ear. When the vibrating tuning fork is placed on the mastoid process and moved once she can no longer hear the sound through bone and the tuning fork is moved to the left ear, she can still hear sound through the air after the bone conduction.

1. Describe the Weber and Rinne test and whether this patient had conductive or sensorineural loss. What are the possible diagnoses for her loss and what clinical tests would you order to follow the diagnoses. What does she likely have?
