Question

Patient admitted ambulatory to ER/OPD. He is complaining of a feeling of a foreign body in his eye, although he cannot recall getting anything in his right eye. His right eye is very red. Dr. Ackerman called and arrived here at 1520. At 1530 in to see and examine the patient. Eye examination done. FB removed. Patient discharged with verbal and written instructions PRIMARY DIAGNOSIS: : Metallic fragment or foreign body - removed - residual rust ring. This 3O-year-old male was having a routine optometric exam and was told that he had metal in his eye and was sent to the emergency room for evaluation. This is an alert male with a visual acuity of 2Al4S in the right eye which is the affected eye. The patient has mild scleral and conjunctival injection. The anterior chamber is clear. The extraocular movements and visual fields are full. The Fundoscopic exam is benign. The patient's corneal surface reveals that at the inferior periphery at about 7 o'clock there is a metallic foreign body with an approximately 2 mm surrounding rust ring. Metallic fragment or foreign body - removed - residual rust ring. PLAN: I used a sterile moistened swab under topical ophthalmic.
