Question

Nursing mothers are able to pass along some immunity to their infants. How is this possible? This is possible because while the baby is in the mothers belly the baby starts to get IgG from the placenta. When the baby receives this from the mother it gives the baby a protection against sickness because they have their mothers' antibodies. Going on when the baby is nursing from the mother, they are still able to gain antibodies. These antibodies from nursing are called IgA. The IgA antibodies are able to help the baby be able to fight any GI problems. While the IgA is being provided during nursing this also help to build up the baby's immune system to be even stronger and powerful.
