Question

There are differences between multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams. A multidisciplinary team involves professionals from various disciplines working independently towards a common goal, often with minimal interactions among them. Each member draws on their specific expertise to address different aspects of a client's needs(Nancarrow, 2013). An example of this is looking at a healthcare setting. A doctor, nurse, and therapist might perform their roles separately with minimal formal communication often just in reports, not direct communication. An interdisciplinary team, on the other hand, emphasizes collaboration and integration among professionals from different disciplines. Team members engage in regular communication and work together to combine their expertise, creating a more holistic approach to problem-solving(Rosen,2018). Taking the same example, in an interdisciplinary team, the doctor, nurse, and social worker would regularly meet to discuss the client's overall care plan, share insights, and make joint decisions. Currently, I believe that I am prepared to be on an interdisciplinary team, but there is always room for improvement. I can strengthen my active listening skills. When actively listening, I am ensuring I fully understand people's perspectives before sharing mine. I can get better at conflict resolution.
