Question: Fifi Carpets, Inc., produces carpet for homes and offices. Fifi has recently opened a new production process dedicated to the manufacture of a special type of carpet used by firms who want a floor covering for high-traffic spaces. As a part of their ongoing quality improvement activities, the managers of Fifi regularly monitor their production processes using statistical process control. For their new production process, Fifi managers would like to develop control charts to help them in their monitoring activities. Thirty samples of carpet sections, with each section having an area of 50 square meters, were randomly selected, and the numbers of stains, cuts, snags, and tears were counted on each section.
