Case: Trina is a pregnant woman who has applied for employment at a hotel to perform work as a maintenance employee. During the interview done by the manager of this department it was highlighted that Trina worked 5 years in similar positions, her quality of work and the high commitment she has had with the companies she has worked for previously. It also came out that Trina is 8 weeks pregnant. The job of housekeeper requires physical exertion, bending, doing footwork all the time and the use of chemicals.
The manager has decided not to hire Trina because she feels that it is in the best interest of both the company and herself for her not perform this type of work. The manager has informed Trina of her decision.
After listening to the manager, Trina reported that in her previous pregnancies while working, she had been transferred to the Laundry Department where the work is usually a little less physically demanding. The department manager stated that her decision was based on the employment possibilities at the time and that this was her final decision.
