Which element of the rhetorical situation do you think is the most important? In other words, as you are getting ready to create a text, which element of the rhetorical situation should you think about first? Give reasons for your answer.
Question 2. Think about three recent examples of communication aimed at you that you have encountered (through social media, news media, advertising, entertainment, etc.). For each example, talk about the author or creator of the communication, their target audience, and their purpose for communicating. As you receive communication from different sources every day, why is it important for you to understand how the rhetorical situation works?

Pretend you have an assignment in your college writing class to write a paper in which you take a position on the issue of free speech on your college campus, giving evidence to defend your position. Describe the rhetorical situation of this communication event. Who would be your audience or audiences? What would be your purpose for communicating? In what genre would you be communicating? What stance would be the most effective? What would be the context of the communication?
