As I have journeyed through this program, I have discovered many "aha" moments. First, I realized how critical leadership is in everyday nursing practice, not just at the management level. Every nurse, regardless of their position, influences patient outcomes and workplace culture through their leadership skills.
Secondly, a major "aha" moment for me was recognizing the importance of delivering high-quality patient care, which requires constant collaboration among healthcare providers and the integration of current research into clinical decision-making.
Finally, through my research paper, I learned that nurse burnout is not just an individual issue but a systemic one. Prioritizing self-care strategies is essential for career longevity and the delivery of high-quality patient care (Dall'Ora et al., 2022).
My understanding of what it means to be a professional nurse has grown significantly. I now see the role not just as providing care, but as being a leader, advocate, and educator. Nurses do so much more than carry out tasks; we think critically, speak up for our patients, and help ensure that the care we deliver is ethical, evidence-based, and truly centered around the patient's needs (Whitney, 2020). Being a professional nurse also means using our voices to influence positive change in society, support and guide new nurses, and contribute to improving healthcare at every level.
As a nurse, I believe that integrating cultural and spiritual care into practice is essential for providing truly holistic care. I plan to carry out culturally sensitive assessments to better understand each patient's unique values, beliefs, and needs. It's important to respect the spiritual beliefs that shape how patients view their health and make decisions about their care. I also plan to collaborate with chaplains and other healthcare providers.
