Assignment:

Lewis-Beck Medical Center is a 650-bed acute care hospital in north Florida. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is developing a database or registry of all inpatients and outpatients who have come to the healthcare organization for treatment. Much like cancer registries, the COVID-19 registry will attempt to track patients for the rest of their lives. It collects data about their hospital admission: length of stay, level of care (general medical or ICU), medications, radiology, lab resources, testing status, attending physicians/hospitalists, discharge status, etc. In addition, if patients were treated on an outpatient basis, either through the Emergency Department or through the COVID-19 clinic, encounter data (like the inpatient data) is collected. This database will be used to develop after-action plans and evaluate hospital functioning and collect data on any residual or sequela diagnoses that patients may develop due to their exposure to COVID-19.

1. Identify the ICD-10-CM codes for COVID-19. Identify the field and field type required character length necessary for the diagnosis codes to be in the database.
2. Identify as many fields as possible in the registry to capture data about the patient, their treatment, and follow-up care.
3. Identify the differences between the inpatient database and the outpatient database.
