Task:

Read the following case study carefully and analyze the situation:

XYZ Hypermarket is run by the XYZ Group of companies and has their head office in Muscat. XYZ Hypermarket is only in Muscat currently but the management has ambitious plans to setup new stores in Nizwa, Sohar and Sur.

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) of XYZ Group has requested you, the Systems Manager, to head the project of implementing systems in the new stores and ensure that all of them are to interconnected with each other and with the head office. The new Hypermarkets will run similar systems which are already in place in the Muscat branch. The head office of XYZ Group needs to receive monthly Sales related reports from the all the stores. The Systems team should be able to monitor the systems from the head office so that they do not need to travel physically to troubleshoot systems except for critical problems.

- Conduct a feasibility study to access whether this project can be taken up or not.
- Scope of the project and the stakeholders involved
- Requirements Specifications in terms of setting up a new hypermarket systems and inter- connectivity (network) between them and these must include the following:
o Functional Requirements
o Resource Requirements &
o Quality Requirements

- Compare two Project methodologies and identify the best methodology for this project. Provide scheduling plan - Work Breakdown structure-task list for this project (show predecessors and duration of activities include Gantt chart & Network Analysis Diagram- using MS Project)

- Risk Identification and Mitigation plan (minimum six with three technical risks). You can use any of the following techniques to identify the Risks
o SWOT Analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats)
o Scenario planning
o Morphological
o Cross-impact
o CBR (Case-based reasoning)
- Costing Plan/Estimation plan (should include all types of overheads)
- Resource Plan (include manpower requirements)
- Training Plan (this will ensure that new and old staff are able use the new system)
- Acceptance plan (this should include the criteria which will be used by the management of XYZ Stores group, to check project completion and implementation).

The solution of above tasks must be followed by a detail reflection of learning by each team member.

Report details:

Develop your proposal as a group of three members into a professional document of not more than 12 to 15 Pages, and create a PowerPoint presentation to discuss the Case study requirements. The document should include a Title page, Table of Contents, Main report section, Appendix (optional), Bibliography and evidence of communication between the team members.

Guidelines: i. The document should not be more than 12 to 15 pages in (size A4) paper. ii. The document should be well presented and neatly done. iii. It should be computer typed using Calibri size 12 font and the Softcopy is to be submitted through Moodle. iv. The report must have a Title Page, table of contents, reference, bibliography and page number. Please avoid wiki as reference. v. Heading should be with Font Size 14, Bold, and Underline. vi. Only one team member must submit the Case Study work proposal in the form of word document in Moodle. Each team member will get the same marks for work proposal. 2. Proposal Documentation : 30 Marks 3. Project Management tools and techniques used : 10 Marks 4. Individual contribution : 20 Marks 5. Knowledge (Viva voce ) : 20 Marks 6.
