In the context of a not-for-profit or cause-based sector, learn to:
1. Recognize best practices in UX (user experience) for website design
2. Identify best practices in conversion centred website design
3. Interpret and evaluate website information architecture
4. Develop recommendations for team project to assist with website planning and design
Background
Phase 1: Website Information Architecture & Design is a critical first deliverable. In this phase, your team must develop an original website designed to inform and persuade members of your target audience(s) to support your cause. Having a well designed website that will inform, educate and convert visitors is a fundamental concept in digital marketing whether you are promoting a for-profit or not-for-profit idea.
Instructions:
1. Find a not-for-profit organization with a well designed website. Do not simply find *any* not-forprofit website. Do some research and find one you find particularly well designed.
Browse the organization's website and explain clearly:
a. Who is the organization? Include the link (URL) to the website.
b. Who are their target audience(s)? How can you tell?
c. Three (3) usability or UX related design principles it applies well. Give examples to support (take screenshots and include in appendix).
d. Types of conversions on the site (there may be multiple actions it wants users to take).
e. Three (3) conversion centred design principles it applies well. Give examples to support. (take screenshots and include in appendix)
f. What could they do to improve usability and/ or conversion? Explain and be descriptive.
2. Website architecture:
a. Diagram the agency's website to represent how it is organized (see lecture notes and What is a Website Architecture? 8 Easy Ways to Improve Your Site Structuring by Hubspot to review what a website architecture diagram looks like). Label it clearly.
b. Based on your diagram above, do you believe the information is effectively organized for the target audience(s)? Why or why not? Explain.
c. Provide one example of how a member of their target audience might navigate through the website and convert. Describe the path to conversion and be clear about the steps/ pages visited, and what the conversion looks like in the end (what is a conversion on this website?).
3. Design Recommendations : based on learning from the website above:
a. Identify and explain three design-based ideas for your team's website that would help optimize it for usability and conversion based on your cause and personas. You must go beyond suggesting "nice branding" or "good pictures" for example. Be specific with design principles you'd apply based on your learning.
b. How can you evaluate whether you've succeeded with implementing these ideas? Explain.
