- You research question

- Background information on the topic (why it is pressing, why it deserves being looked at, and a BRIEF mention of alrwady established data

- Your variables for testing, or what you choose to look at and possible relationships (do not worry too much about method at this point)

- Your hypothesis or thesis

This first part of the paper is you setting up you research with background data, variables, and a thesis. The thesis (your hypothesis) is the most important part of the paper as it will highlight what you think is going to happen. Therefore what I will be looking for most in these three pages is how you got from a research question to a statement (thesis)

For example: The question – “what are the effects of abusive families on children” could yield a thesis of “Through preliminary research the effects of abusive parenting on children will have a negative effect on the child’s growth particularly in the areas of interpersonal skills”

Remember, this is a rough draft of a rough draft, experiment and try your best, I will provide feedback on how to refine your thesis moving forward.

Deliverable: 12 point, double spaced, three pages.
