Research Project Assignment -

For this Assignment, you will write an 8 page literature review that captures relevant theories and empirical research leading to a significant research topic, problem statement, and research question(s). Approach your paper as though you were arguing for funding for a study to support a vital new step in understanding alternatives to conventional leadership. While you do not have to actually design a complete study to the point of specifying research measures of leadership and organizational behaviors, you will develop a relevant research topic, problem statement, and research question(s) on which your proposed research would be focused. This proposal should explain why the answers obtained further develop an important theory, address a gap in current models, or demonstrate a solution to a common organizational problem. Rather than attempting to include as many references as possible, you should select appropriate recent sources to form the conceptual foundation of your proposed study. Build a rhetorical argument for why your research problem and question(s) are important.

An obvious extension of your paper would be to consider using it as a springboard for a dissertation proposal. When you prepare an outline for the final project in this class, plan to use sentences to describe what you will be writing about. In the outline define the problem and ask questions that you would want to address by reading about the topic. List and use 10 articles as the references in this paper.

The Topic to write is: How does organizational culture affect leadership in an organization?

General Outline Format - Suggested approach:

I. Introduction - What is the topic? Describe the problem that you wish to address. How does the problem affect organizations? Employees? Define any special terminology so that your reader understands what you are discussing.

II. Background Information - In this section you will describe the major research (describe each of the 10 articles) that has been done on the topic related to your topic. Also include descriptions of issues that need to be addressed.

2. Research conducted

3. Results

C. Third major author/research study description and so on until you discuss all the 10 articles

D. Discuss how the results of these studies provided information that enhances the overall knowledge.

E. Discuss what information has not been provided to address the problem or question

III. Potential Research Project - Describe one or more ideas of how to gather more information and collect data.

A. Potential sources of data that might be collected

B. Ways that the data might be collected

C. How the research might address an issue needing social change

D. Feasibility of these research ideas

1. Issues to be addressed

2. Ideas to consider to overcome obstacles

IV. Conclusion - Summarize the major points in the research literature you reviewed. Mention possible research approaches and their feasibility

V. References - 10 references taken from your readings in the course

NOTE: You are not expected to write a detailed proposal in this project paper. It may be 12-15 pages in length. By the time you describe 10 readings you will have easily filled the space. 10 different researches/articles that are related to the topic should be used for this solution and all should be listed in the reference list.
