Comparison Essay Assignment

In a 3-4 page argumentative essay, compare two aspects of The Circle that provide insight into the book's meaning. Your essay should assert an argument.

Rather than just describing the ways in which two things are similar or different, your thesis should answer the question: What do these two things tell us about the Circle, or the world in which The Circle takes place, or the characters?

You can compare two characters, how a character is at the beginning of the book versus the end, programs at the Circle, settings...anything that makes the book's overall theme(s) apparent.

Other possible prompts:

1. Compare the aquarium to something or someone else in the text.
2. Which character changes the most/least over the course of the book? What does that change (or lack of change) tell us?
3. How is the world outside of the Circle different from the world outside?
