Questions: how healthcare was different in the past, it's time for you to select someone who is currently working in healthcare. It could be a provider in a hospital, clinic, nursing home, rehabilitation facility, parish health facility, or ambulance service. You could select a direct provider such as a physician, nurse, medical assistant, nurse practitioner, certified nursing assistant, home health aide, medic, or someone who works with other healthcare professionals as in a lab. Do not select a famous person you have never met; this should be someone you could talk with.
Select that person and interview him or her. Ask the person what his or her job is like each day and what are the three most important reasons he or she is continuing to work in healthcare. Use this information to write the opening paragraph of what will become your profile essay. For example:
Mary Nusser is a registered nurse (RN) currently working at a local urgent care site. She has been a nurse for more than 10 years, practicing in a family-medicine clinic in the Baton Rouge area. Typically, Nusser has supported physicians and educates patients, and she said in a recent interview that she has always enjoyed her work in nursing. When she was offered the head nurse position at the urgent care facility, it was during the COVID-19 pandemic and while she knew immediately that she wanted to help, she was concerned about keeping patients safe. At the urgent care center, she said she has the opportunity to talk with and educate many patients who have not yet been vaccinated and discuss the value of immunization. She also enjoys helping patients who have put off routine healthcare because of the pandemic and may now be in a health crisis. She said that the work she is doing today at the urgent care facility is some of the most challenging, most interesting, and most important work she has ever done as a nurse.
THIS writer decided to profile a registered nurse, Mary Nusser. Notice the writer's thesis statement (in yellow).
Who will YOU profile? Here in Discussion Board, identify whom you are planning to profile and write how you will talk with the person (by phone, face to face, on video). How do you know this person? What kind of job does this person have?
