Assignment Problem: I have taken a few critical statements from the textbook for you to comprehend the current stats of the quo of global climate change, conservation of biology, and human responsibility.

"In 1896 Swedish physicist Arrhenius asked a new and important question, namely, why is the temperature of the Earth so suitable for humans and other forms of life?"

Also, the author states that "modern science is able to study past climate, so we now know that the last 10 000 years were a period of unusual stability in the global climate."

The authors admit that "there are widespread changes in the physical environment, primarily involving the solid and liquid phases of water. Water is one of the most important resources for whole lives on Earth, and climate change has a profound impact on them."

"Arctic sea ice is retreating at unprecedented rates, as would be predicted by the increased heat absorption capacity of dark open water as compared to reflective ice."

"There is a statistically significant increase in wildfires in the American West because longer summers and earlier melt of the snowpack have led to dryer environments and higher fire vulnerability" (Flannigan et al. 2000).

"Oceans are also threatened by acidification caused by elevated CO2 levels in the atmosphere."

"Many species are changing the timing of their life histories (phenology)" (Root et al. 2003; Parmesan 2006).

"Animal species are changing the timing in their life cycles, such as tree swallows (Tachycineta bicolor) nesting and laying their eggs earlier" (Dunn and Winkler 1999).

"There is a considerable change among Arctic species because so many life histories are tied to the ice, which decreased dramatically both in area and thickness in 2007 and 2008."

Likewise, climate change impacts could go on and on.

This is Dr's take:

On the one hand, the 2015 global climate summit in Paris forged a landmark agreement for setting the path for a historic transformation of the world's fossil fuel-driven economy within decades to arrest global warming. On the other hand, the public discussion on climate change has become so polarized that even some key individuals (a few leading global developed nations, leaders, policymakers, and the general public) don't even acknowledge there is a debate on climate change. Most importantly, the threat to the pattern of practice is millions of them strongly believe there is nothing to worry about climate change. Besides, they launch  this idea to the progressive views call "left-wing; liberals; pseudoscience, hoax, and fabrication.

The increase in carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases in the atmosphere will typically increase the temperature of the planet's climate, which may cause changes in weather conditions in various places on Earth and profoundly impact lives on Earth. Temperature changes may affect rainfall patterns, the hydrological cycle, tree growth, life reproduction, quality of life on Earth, human psychology, and natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, rainfall, and heat patterns. Most importantly, it will impact the entire food production and conservation of biology. It may also affect agricultural outputs, novel virus development, water pollution, sea level rising, and influence energy needs. This could lead to increased economic instability and lead to human catastrophes of regional political instability, poverty, famine, deceases, and proxy wars. Putting all of this information into consideration, discuss your thoughts on:

  • How will global climate change impact the conservation of biology?
  • Do you believe climate change is short term events
  • Do you think climate change is real and it will affect the global systems in a longer time
  • Do you think it will impact biodiversity conservation?
  • If so, who is responsible for addressing the problems caused by climate change?
  • What can we do about it?
  • What is your responsibility as citizen to make a change?
  • What can University do about it?
  • What are your innovative and alternative approaches to control this global issue, or should we have one?
  • Should we invest in green technology or continue to drill the planet for fossil fuel in water and land?

Keep in mind that the global population is increasing (in 2050, it will be 10 Billion), and people need food and resources. No matter what you say, Govts, Corporations, and People will continue to exploit the Earth for survival. So, whichever the Earth's doctrine and the global climate change reality you hold (e.g., conservative, progressive, liberal, environmentalists, peace-lovers, biologists, communists, atheist, and spiritual), it is up to you. But I do need your justification, clarification, reasons, in-depth analysis, counter-arguments, and take a critical discussion for the sake of our future generation.
