A rapid review of the use of face mask in preventing the spread of COVID-19, I have composed the following literature review to investigate how effective it is known that the N95 respirator and surgical masks are. These two articles present information and data comparing the different face masks worn, particularly for healthcare workers in a clinical setting, and in setting of the world we now live in. Since the novel coronavirus has been introduced, the question arises on which masks to wear and in what setting. In trying to find the answer to the PICOT question, are nurses (P) who wear N95 mask (I) compared with nurses who wear surgical masks around COVID 19 positive patients unknowingly (C) at risk for/of developing the coronavirus when in contact with a COVID 19 patient (O) for over 10 minutes (T)?
The reason for this topic is that we are all in this together and we want to wear the right mask to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. I have chosen two articles to answer that question. The qualitative article discusses the different masks and their efficacies against the coronavirus. The quantitative article discusses the different masks that can be worn to help prevent the spread of different respiratory illnesses in different situations as well as their efficacies.
