Description:
This course has one major assignment intended for you to process learning from each module and to develop your philosophy of curriculum and instruction. The assignment is a "Handbook for Curriculum and Instruction" that you create. This assignment can be created to fit K-12 education, but should be created as an organizational level document. For example, a school district's approach to curriculum and instruction or a university's guide to ensuring high-quality curriculum and instructional practices. Each section of the handbook should be 2-3 pages in length (Times New Roman, double-spaced, standard margins) and each section should include at least three different citations. Note that while there must be at least three citations per section, the same sources may be used in multiple sections. These may be citations provided through assigned course readings, course optional readings, self-selected readings assigned in each-module, or additional readings located by you.
The required sections of the handbook are as follows:
Key beliefs about learning. (How do learners learn?)
Key beliefs about instruction. (How do educators instruct in a manner that supports learning?)
Key concepts for curriculum design. (How do we design courses/units of study to include key ideas about learning and instruction?) Consider principles related to process design when discussing the structure of curriculum frameworks.
Key concepts for curriculum implementation. (How do we take a written curriculum and put that into practice?) Discussions may reference approaches to implementation and organizational execution.
Key concepts for curriculum evaluation. (Once implemented, how do we see if a curriculum is working? What do we do if it is not?) Evaluation strategies may be informed by concepts of performance management and continuous improvement.
Additional information:
This assignment is to be constructed as an organizational document. Therefore, it should not be written in first person. It should, rather, be written as an organizational guide.
