TASK: Choose the ONE scholarly article that corresponds to your topic and write an evaluation of that article using the bulleted criteria below. This essay should be 2-3 pages in length and include a title page and a reference page.
• Introductory Paragraph
- Introduce the topic
- Provide a brief overview of the topic
- Write a statement that contains your main point about the evaluation of the article (When writing an essay, your main point or controlling idea will be expressed in a thesis statement).
• Purpose. What was the purpose of article? (to inform, persuade, or entertain)
- Did the writer achieve his/her purpose? How? Use at least two examples from the article to support your opinion.
• Audience. Who was the intended audience of the article?
- How did you know the writer's intended audience? Use at least one example to support your opinion.
• Thesis. What was the thesis of the article?
- How clear was the thesis statement?
- How did the thesis statement connect to the rest of the article?
• Organization. How was the article organized?
- Briefly explain the organization of the article.
- Was the organization effective? Why or why not?
• Overall evaluation of the article.
- Should others read this article? Why or why not?
- This is the main focus of the essay. Take your time and use your best analytical information and academic tone.
- Remember to avoid using "I" in this section.
• Concluding Paragraph.
- Should resate your controlling thesis, recap your main points, and provide a thoughtful ending statement or question.
Note: To remain objective, "I" should not be used in this assignment. Each section should be one full paragraph. Keep in mind that if you are referencing the article, you will need an in-text citation and a reference page.
