When you see a post on social media, read an article online, and see reports on the news, you are using critical thinking to evaluate the information, separating opinions from facts, identifying bias, and considering viewpoints different from your own. You use your critical thinking skills to solve problems, from mundane problems, like what to make for dinner based on the ingredients you have on hand, to more complex problems, such as how to pay for medical expenses or how to resolve an unexpected situation at work.

In this assignment, you will think about how critical thinking happens in your life. You'll consider the barriers you read about in Ch. 1 of THiNK: Critical Thinking and Logic Skills for Everyday Life and where you think you are in the stages of cognitive development. Thinking about how you use critical thinking now, what barriers are relevant to you in your development of critical thinking skills, and who you are as a critical thinker now is a foundation for your future development. When you consciously practice your critical thinking skills and grow in your development as a critical thinker, no one will tell you what to think because you will know how to think through any situation or problem and decide for yourself.
