Problem

One creative work in my community that has impacted me is the local murals and public art that celebrate Cajun culture and Louisiana resilience especially those created after hurricanes and flooding. We have artwork around town that highlights bayou life, wildlife, fishermen, oak trees draped in Spanish moss and messages about rebuilding and staying strong. These murals are more than just decoration they reflect who we are. In south Louisiana community, survival, faith and family are central to our identity. The artwork reflects a dominant narrative of perseverance no matter how many storms hit us we rebuild. At the same time some of the more recent murals also highlight environmental concerns, coastal erosion and the disappearing wetlands. These works challenge the community to think about climate change and environmental responsibility which can sometimes feel like a counternarrative in an area where oil and gas industries are part of the economy. Seeing art that addresses both pride in our heritage and awareness of environmental threats has influenced how I view my own community. It helped me recognize that we can love our traditions while still questioning how to protect our future. These creative works shaped my belief that art is not just expressive it is powerful. It preserves culture tells stories and sometimes pushes us to grow. I'm looking forward to learning more about how creative works connect to social movements and to reading about the communities that have shaped each of you
