This assessment is meant to consolidate fundamental ideas and understanding of the changing global hospitality industry and the impact on the industry's future. It will also outline the positive and negative effects and consequences of the advancements and changes that we are currently experiencing.

By consolidating these ideas early in the unit, you will better understand broader, more complex issues discussed in later weeks. Recognising the real-world implications of abstract concepts is vital for the success of this unit.

Your Task

The global hotel industry is evolving rapidly, resulting in a structural shift in its landscape. This phenomenon is caused not only by economic, geopolitical, demographic and socio-cultural aspects, but also technological disruption, changing consumer behaviours and new market players. These factors stand to impact the global environment of the hospitality industry, with emerging, dynamic markets.

Having learnt about, and considered, the effect of the changing global hospitality industry, you must now consider the current effects of the following aspects on the industry:

Part 1. Changing consumer leisure patterns.
Part 2. The different approaches to communication.
Part 3. The various effects of image on destinations for global populations.

You must critically consider and discuss the effects of each of these three aspects of the hospitality industry. How can any negative effects be mitigated, and positive effects be effectively utilised?

Your assignment will be a 1000-word essay (referenced in-text and should be presented as follows):

Introduction: (200 Words) - Introduce the topic, the questions that you will be discussing, and briefly summarise the main points of your paper.

Body: (600 Words) - Discuss all three points in your paper (separate these into three paragraphs). Reference in-text, where possible, and include a reference list of sources (formatted at the end).

Conclusion: 200 Words - A brief conclusion to summarise the findings of your essay.

Reference List - A list of references - minimum 8 - (minimum 4 industry and minimum 4 academic).
