Hamilton Quaternions : Kernels and Images
Show that the map phi: H->M_2(C) defined by phi(a+bi+cj+dk)=(a+b(sqrt -1),c+d(sqrt-1);-c+d(sqrt-1),a-b(sqrt-1)) is a ring homomorphism. Calculate its kernel and describe its image.
Ps. Here H is the ring of integral Hamilton Quaternions and M_2(C) are 2x2 matrices with complex coefficients. notation after the equal sign in the definition of phi is a matrix with the first row of two elements a+b(sqrt-1) and c+d(sqrt-1) and second row of two elements-c+d(sqrt-1) and a-b(sqrt-1)
Suppose that you select 2 cards without replacement from an ordinary deck of playing cards. If the first card that you select is a king, what is the probability that the second card that you select is a heart?
Please give a short answer as to why the following is true: Let p(x) = Ax^ 2+ Bx + C. For any interval [a,b] the value of c guaranteed by the Mean Value theorem is the midpoint of the interval.
Evaluate the derivative of the given function by using the definition of derivative
Show that a function f is measurable IF AND ONLY IF there exists a sequence (f_m) of set functions such that f(x)=lim f_m(x) for almost all x.
Find the mean score
If I treat the upper block as a 2x2 matrix, I can find P = [1 0; 1 1] (Note: Using Matlab notation here). This correctly results in INV(P)AP = [3 1; 0 3] which is in the form needed.
