Question

We are focused on the impacts of global climate events (specifically Ice Ages). We have also discussed Global Climate Change and the anthropogenic impacts of greenhouse gases and global warming in several places this semester. Regardless of the overwhelming scientific evidence of this incremental warming, large percentages of the general population either do not believe it is real or is not afraid of the consequences. In this discussion, I want to see your opinion on what you think science presents effectively about global climate change and what it does not present effectively. Discuss how science could do a better job of showing the general public or politicians the negative impacts of global climate change.

Another thing that concerns me, is that when global cooling (Ice Ages) are depicted on-screen (movies like The Day after Tomorrow or shows like Game of Thrones), we see a clear and present danger to humanities survival, even though the Earth and hominids have survived countless Ice Ages. Are there good examples where popular media (movies, TV shows, etc.) depict the stark reality of global warming (here I mean the slight incremental rise in ave. temperature, not movies like Pitch Black or Dune that are located on other planets with hostile, hot environments)? In this discussion, talk about movies/tv-shows that get some aspects of it correct. (be a movie critic and a scientist here). Can science use these movies/shows to better present the dangers of a warmer planet?
