You are currently at the long term facility 3 days a week on a geriatric nursing clinical rotation. The nursing instructor has talked to the class about being aware of the sounds when walking in the halls. You see a resident being pushed to the shower room in a wheelchair by one of the nursing aides. On the way back down the hall, you hear a sound from the shower room and decide to open the door to the shower room. Much to your surprise, you see the aide putting a washcloth into the resident's mouth. The muffled sound from the resident is barely audible. The nursing assistant states, "The resident was screaming and disturbing the resident in the next room) who has pneumonia and is trying to rest. I am just doing this for a few minutes.
