Question

Through researching many articles, telemedicine is the way of the future with regards to healthcare. It has been documented that there has been an increase in telehealth medicine since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic which has brought telemedicine to the forefront of patient care. Telemedicine consults especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic can decrease exposure to the virus by the providers that evaluate them. This also helps to conserve needed PPE (Hamm et al., 2020). Telemedicine consults are supported by the providers that need additional specialists in their facilities and in areas that are more rural with lack of access to providers that staff the facilities. It is clear after reviewing expert opinions, systemics reviews, and metanalysis that telemedicine will be beneficial for patients. It ensures efficiency in care. Telemedicine will improve access to care which in turn improves patient satisfaction. One area I had hoped to see improve with telemedicine is patient satisfaction. The level of emergency patient and medical provider satisfaction with telemedicine is a crucial area for further research. Our data broadly suggests that patients were happy with their experience with telemedicine (Rademacher et al., 2019).

Improvements in access to care and wait times during emergencies improve mortality rates, patient satisfaction and overall outcomes of patients. It has been documented that prehospital diagnosis made prior to admission has a high rate of correlation with the hospital determined diagnosis. Earlier diagnosis improves patient outcomes (Kim et al., 2020). Telemedicine has the potential to enhance remote coordination and administration of emergency patient care, especially in emergency settings. It has been utilized to assist first responders through the provision of telephone or video consultations with hospital specialists and the exchange of prehospital patient information.

Telehealth is connecting homeless veterans with access to care anytime and anywhere with the use of video telehealth tablets. One of the barriers to the study was the correlation between older individuals' adoption of technology and expectation of in-person social contact. (Garvin et al.,). Some veteran prefer to have in-person care. However, video visits were identified as a potential substitute. The VA is trying to bridge the gap to connect high quality VA care with homeless veterans. Research supports using video telehealth tablets to increase access for veterans experiencing homelessness for medical care including mental health. The use of the video telehealth tablets will assist in fewer emergency department visits. When a veteran needs to check into the emergency room in a mental health crisis it elevates the stress level. When the veteran checks in we immediately removed all there belongs and make them change into a paper gown which can enhance the situation. By providing the telehealth service using the Video Telehealth tablet the veteran can be evaluated by a provider anytime and anywhere. Telehealth provides a convenient and safe way for people to seek medical advice, and mental health support. This is another way to address staffing needs at the VA. Telemedicine presents an opportunity to address staffing problems and bring the advantages of hospital medicine to rural areas (Gutierrez et al., 2019).
