Nutrition, physical activity, and early childhood education are the three strategies we focus on during my internship. Our partnership with community programs enables us to discuss, advocate, and create policy and procedural changes to improve these three strategies for the residents of the City of Hartford. We are partnering with United Way to provide nutrition to Hartford residents through 6 co-contracting partner programs. By connecting with these partners, my program (REACH) can provide healthier food and education to the community. In doing so, we also enhance policy and procedural change within the programs we work with. The program that aims at low-income families can utilize vouchers (EBT, farmers market) as an example. The micro level focuses on families and individuals to provide nutrition, healthy eating education and focus on their needs. The mezzo level works with local organizations to help you. This help concerns the spreading of the word, the creation of events, community gardens, etc. The macro level is in favor of collaborating with the local government to alter policies and procedures to ensure access to healthy food.
