Question 1) Find a news story about a specific thing that happened and that is being reported on as news. Write poem in response to the event.
Question 2) June is Pride Month. It is also a month surrounded by holidays that memorialize and honor people and events--Juneteenth, Cinco De Mayo, Memorial Day, Pentecost, Father's Day, Independence Day, May the Fourth... Pick a holiday or celebration from the month of May or June and write short story about a character who is just finding out about the meaning of that holiday.
Question 3) Write dialogue happening between two or more characters during a protest march. Make sure you include setting, character, and staging directions.
Question 4) Pick one aspect of the pandemic--getting a shot, mask battles, being stuck at home with someone, doing work on zoom, having groceries delivered, getting sick, losing someone, etc.--and tell your story. Use details and plot to be specific about the part of the pandemic you are focusing on. Focus on making others feel your experience through the way you write.
Question 5) Write abouta fear related to a specific type of current event. The fear could be in a real moment or fear of being caught in a real moment. Use tension to make your reader experience fear of the moment.
Question 6) It's summer in Michigan. Pick a setting. Pick people. Pick a feeling. Pick a conflict. Tell a story in fiction, poetry or drama that makes your reader experience a real Michigan summer experience.
