For the first formal essay you are to critically analyze a movie that you believe functions as an implicit argument: then articulate the embedded argument by putting it into language. The main idea of this assignment is that some of films give us framed understandings of larger Ideals (e.g. love. beauty.justice. success, and gender roles). You must reasonably infer and support what that message is and how it is communicated. In essence you are articulating with precise language an idea that is communicated without words.

How does the movie functions to use means other than words to move an audience toward a certain viewpoint pertaining to love. beauty. justice. success. gender roles. etc?

The intent of this assignment is to have fun. but also to develop your own sense of perspective and critical voice. You will have to include a framed summary. thesis paragraph. organized S/EYE support paragraphs, and write in a formal, critical voice.

You will be evaluated on 3 levels: 1) working with specific organizational formats. 2) the depth and quality of your ideas!presentation, and 3) the quality of your evidence and support.

This essay will be at least 3 pages, and will be due Monday, June 13. The essay should be typed and in MLA Format (double -spaced. use 12-point font, and 1- margins). As always use Standard English. and write in a formal. critical tone.
