Question: Going Paperless Requires a Change Management Process Ecology-minded consumers are putting pressure on companies to prove they're doing their best to minimize their environmental impact. "Going green" requires training employees in new business operations and practices as well as overcoming their resistance to change. Cortel, a communications company, decided to go paperless as part of a green initiative. The company hired an outside vendor to automate all human resource functions such as payroll and benefits, but most employees still want to print copies of their pay stubs and performance reviews. Cortel wants employees to retrain from printing out these records as part of the overall transformation of the company into a paperless organization. Going paperless also helps reduce costs. One estimate is that the typical employee prints six wasted pages per day. This and the average cost of a wasted page is $0.06 and adds up to 1,410 wasted pages per year, at a cost of $84 per employee! What recommendations would you give Cortel for successfully changing into a paperless organization and overcoming employees' resistance?
