Question: Consider the following examination question, to be set some years in the future: ‘Up to the 21st century there existed a peculiar form of work organisation called "employment", now seen as outmoded as slavery seemed then. Rather than working as free agents in the context of a negotiated agreement, as we do now, individuals were classed as "employees". In exchange for money, they submitted to a quasi-military regime whereby they were "told what to do" and disciplined if "non-conformance" occurred. What are the ethical implications of this practice?'
