Emotional Intelligence, Cultural Intelligence and Diversity
Assessment - Intercultural Case Study Analysis
Your Task
Each student, individually, is required to submit a written case analysis that responds to the three assessment questions, based on their randomly allocated intercultural workplace case, applying Hofstede's cultural dimensions and Hall's high-context/low-context model as the primary analytical frameworks. Concepts related to cross cultural communication should be considered carefully while analysing workplace interactions and communication patterns.
Assessment Description
In this assessment, students will be assessed on their ability to apply concepts of emotional and cultural intelligence to contemporary workplace contexts and examine their implications for leadership, teams, and organisational culture, evaluate the importance and influence of diversity and culture within organisations and leadership practice, and apply practical strategies that support effective intercultural engagement, relationship-building, and inclusive workplace outcomes.
Assessment Instructions
By the end of week 6, you will be allocated one intercultural workplace case study at random via MyKBS. Each case presents a complex cross-cultural professional scenario involving communication breakdowns, leadership tensions, competing expectations, or decision-making challenges. The specific analytical questions relevant to your case will be included within the case study materials.
In your written analysis, your focus should be on demonstrating that you can use intercultural theory to understand workplace behaviour and propose practical solutions.
You are expected to:
Apply Hofstede's cultural dimensions and Hall's communication framework accurately and meaningfully to the specific case.
Explain how cultural differences influence behaviour, expectations, and communication in the scenario.
Develop clear and practical communication strategies informed by your analysis.
Recommend realistic organisational improvements that support effective team building and cross-cultural collaboration. Knowledge of team and group dynamics may also assist in evaluating workplace relationships and collaborative practices.
Your work should go beyond describing the models. It should show clear reasoning, strong links between theory and the case, and well-justified recommendations.
