Assessment Description
A 21-year-old male comes into your office, discussing that he has not been able to sleep consistently throughout the night over the past 3 days. He discussed that his mind constantly is racing, and that he struggles to concentrate at home, school, and work. He often feels like his heart is pounding out of his chest and is seeking advice on ways in which he can alleviate these symptoms. You begin to suggest that he could see a psychiatrist for potential medication management, but he immediately states that he wants to stay off medications due to their side effects.
Evaluate information gathered during this assessment process. What diagnostic criteria for his presenting symptoms would you use and why?
