Yesterday afternoon Cassie ( Shasha's mum) popped in to fill all the enrolment paperwork, received the Parent Handbook and shared with you the list of contacts that Sasha ( She has a rare and severe form of Muscular Dystrophy and uses a wheelchair for mobility) works with in her team of regular support providers. Cassie has given permission for you to liaise with Sasha's O.T., Physiotherapist and Speech Pathologist as required, with Cassie's oversight of when and where those meetings will occur, as costs of stakeholder engagement will be deducted from Sasha's NDIS ECEI budget.
Julie, an additional needs educator, also had her induction yesterday and is scheduled to come in on the days that Sasha is rostered on to support your team of educators. What you will need to assess, over the coming week, is how the educator to child ratios work while Sasha is in the service, as additional staff may be needed to ensure safety of all and smooth running. You may need to review and adjust rosters or how routine tasks are accomplished, e.g., mealtimes with Sasha's feeding requirements may need an extra hand on deck.
With Cassie's help, all the staff are feeling confident and well trained in the skills they'll need to be supportive of Sasha and meet her care needs.
On 19/04/2021 the laws regarding information sharing changed and as an ECEC provider you may now access and share information with approved providers as is reasonable for the wellbeing and benefit of all, which will allow you to have greater stakeholder engagement if required. Bear in mind, you will need to seek out state by state legislation as these are not consistent nationally.
You've been successful in acquiring all the resources and equipment that Sasha needs to enjoy participating in the service and rooms have been set-up to be easily accessible with a wheelchair.
In effect, by coordinating resources and aligning your service and staff to welcome Sasha and her family you have facilitated an effective Inclusion Support Plan, congratulations!
