Topic: Early management theorists (Classical school of thought) believed that organisations should

strive to be logical and rational, with a place for everything and everything in its place. Do you agree

with that approach to the management of contemporary organisations? Discuss.

Criteria for Assessment: Essay

demonstrated understanding of the topic;

ability to comprehend and analyse the theories;

ability to evaluate the contribution of selected theory/ theories and its/ their relevance for

contemporary organizations;

quality and completeness of the analysis and discussion;

 evidence of appropriate reading & research (academic and other relevant peer reviewed journals,

textbook and other reference books, company publications etc.) It is compulsory that you cite

somewhere between 8-10 credible academic sources in your essay.

 Use of in-text reference, completion of a full reference list at the end using Harvard style of

referencing; and? correct presentation (format, completed and signed cover page, word count on the cover page,

line spacing, spell check etc.), and clarity of expression.
